Speakers:

Dr. Matt Coleridge, BVMS, MS, Dip ACVS-LA, MRCVS:

  • My experiences with Distal Limb fractures, their management and outcomes.  
  • Dr. Matt Coleridge has completed a surgery internship at Hagyard Equine Medical Institute in Kentucky, followed by a further large animal internship at Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine. Matt undertook his Surgical Residency at Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine in a combined program with Hagyard Equine Medical Institute. In 2017, he completed a Masters in Veterinary Science (MS) and the following year he became a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS). Matt is experienced in all aspects of equine surgery with an emphasis on orthopaedics. He is particularly interested in all aspects of the Thoroughbred breeding, sales and racing industry and his surgical interests include juvenile and adult orthopaedic surgery, as well as broodmare reproductive and abdominal surgery.

Professor Scott Pirie – BVM&S, PhD, DECEIM, MRCVS:

  • Diagnosis and management of equine asthma.
  • Professor Pirie is a 1989 Edinburgh graduate and returned to the “Dick Vet” in 1991, where he has remained since as part of the Equine Internal Medicine team. His clinical and research interests largely focus on pulmonology (PhD 2002), gastroenterology and grass sickness (research sabbatical 2002-2005). He is a Diplomate of the European College of Equine Internal Medicine (2004), an ex-member of BEVA council, a member of the EVJ Editorial Consultant Board, Past President of the Veterinary and Comparative Respiratory Society and ex-Chair of the Examination Committee of the ECEIM. Scott’s current position is Chair of Equine Clinical Sciences and the School’s Dean for Students.

Dr. Shaun McKane, BVSC BSC(VET), PHD DIP. ACVIM DIP. ECEIM MRCVS

  • Science behind new treatments for severe equine asthma. 
  • Shaun gained his veterinary degree from the University of Sydney in 1993, where he also completed an intercalating degree in equine respiratory
    responses to exercise with Prof. Reuben Rose. Shaun took up a PhD at the University of Melbourne, centred on the effects of exercise induced pulmonary hemorrhage on racehorse lungs. Shaun moved to Oregon State University in 1999, to undertake a residency position and become a Boarded Specialist with the American College of Equine Internal Medicine. In 2002 he moved to the University of Liverpool, Leahurst where he has worked as a senior lecturer in equine medicine, become a Registered RCVS and European College Specialist in Equine Medicine. Shaun is currently a Director at Cotts Equine Hospital in Wales.
