Dr. Pat Sells, BVSc, CertAVP, MRCVS
Pat qualified from Liverpool Vet School in 2007 with the Equine Clinical Prize. He spent 5 years at Rossdales in Newmarket, where he obtained his Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice and supported busy breeding operations such as Juddmonte Farms. Pat subsequently set up a stud & racing practice in New Zealand at Windsor Park Stud. When Pat moved home to the UK in 2016 he set up a stud & racing practice based at Chasemore Farm, where he is now non-exec director. Having moved to the Newbury area in 2025 he is now co-director and co-founder at Arrowdown Equine Vets. Areas of clinical interest include podiatry, sales, reproduction & orthopaedic development. Pat sits on two committees for the HBLB and is a keen ownerbreeder.
Rebecca Watson, RVN, MSc Equine Science
Rebecca Watson joined Plusvital in 2024, bringing over 15 years of equine veterinary experience and a global perspective gained across five continents. A Registered Veterinary Nurse with the RCVS and a holder of a Master’s Degree in Equine Science from the University of Edinburgh, Rebecca specialises in equine nutrition, health and performance. Registered with the UK Association for Nutrition (AfN), Rebecca combines her clinical expertise with evidence-based nutritional practice. At Plusvital, she plays a key role in product development, technical support, distributor training and providing tailored nutritional advice to help horses perform at their best.
Dr. Peter Ramzan, BVSc (Sydney), FRCVS
Pete graduated from the University of Sydney 1994. He subsequently worked in the cattle industry in the Kimberley region of Northern Australia before moving to the UK in 1996. He gained experience in a large animal practice in the West Country before joining Rossdale and Partners in Newmarket in 1998. He became a partner in 2005 and a clinical director from 2021 to 2025. Pete is a member of Rossdale’s busy racing team and is involved in pre-purchase work (both private and at a public auction) within the UK and worldwide. He is Nominated Vet for the Hong Kong Jockey Club. Peter has a strong interest in advancing the science and the practice of racehorse sports medicine and has lectured and published widely on a range of subjects relating to this, including the 2014 The Racehorse: A Veterinary Manual – the first comprehensive textbook wholly dedicated to veterinary management of the racehorse. Pete is a previous recipient of BEVA’s Richard Hartley Clinical Award and in 2018 was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) for Meritorious Contributions to Clinical Practice.
Dr. David E Freeman, MVB, MRCVS, PhD, DACVS
David Freeman graduated from the Veterinary College of Ireland in 1972 and then worked in private practice for 10 months. He did an equine internship at New Bolton Center of the University of Pennsylvania from 1974 to 1975, followed by a residency in large animal surgery at New Bolton Center from 1975 to 1977. He was awarded a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania in 1985. From 1981 to 1994, he was an equine surgeon at New Bolton Center, University of Pennsylvania. He became a board- certified surgeon in the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 1989. He joined the faculty at the University of Illinois, College of Veterinary Medicine in 1994 and became Head of Equine Medicine and Surgery in 1998. In 2004, he joined the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences at the University of Florida, College of Veterinary Medicine, as Professor of Equine Surgery and Associate Chief of Staff, and subsequently as Service Chief in Large Animal Surgery. He was also interim Department Chair in Large Animal Clinical Sciences at the University of Florida from 2009 to 2012 and in 2021. David was recognized by the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil in 2011 for “outstanding contributions to the development of equine surgery worldwide.” He received the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) Founders' Award for Career Achievement in 2022. He was the John Hickman Plenary Speaker at the British Equine Veterinary Association Congress in 2025. He is the Martha and Arthur Appleton Endowed Professor in Equine Studies, and Director of the Island Whirl Equine Colic Research Laboratory, University of Florida. David’s main area of clinical interest is improving survival and reducing postoperative complications after gastrointestinal surgery in horses. Dr. Jane Boswell, MA Vet MB CertVA CertES(Orth) DipECVS MRCVS
Dr Jane Boswell is a Claims Consultant for the Veterinary Defence Society. A graduate of the University of Cambridge, she completed an internship and residency in Equine Surgery at the Royal Veterinary College, attaining the ECVS Diploma in Large Animal Surgery in 2000. She subsequently joined the surgical team at Liphook Equine Hospital, becoming a partner in 2006, where she stayed for 25 years. An RCVS and European-recognised Specialist in Equine Surgery, Dr Boswell has extensive expertise in equine surgery, lameness diagnosis and advanced imaging, with a particular interest in magnetic resonance imaging. She has made a significant contribution to postgraduate veterinary education and specialist training, serving as both examiner for the RCVS and the European College of Veterinary Surgeons and as a founder and director of the Vet Partners School of Equine Veterinary Nursing. She is currently President-Elect of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons.
