Pat O’Sullivan – President & Director IEVA CLG
Dr. Pat O’Sullivan qualified from University College Dublin in 2005 and worked in mixed practice in Kildare for three years before moving to New Zealand in 2008 and embarking on a career in equine practice. During four and a half years in New Zealand Pat worked with top racehorses and sport horses, and pursued further training in dentistry and equine medicine, gaining membership of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in Equine Medicine in 2010. Pat returned to Troytown Greyabbey in 2013. Pat’s interests include both first opinion and referral dentistry, racehorse orthopaedics and reproduction.
David Turley – Vice President & Director IEVA CLG
Dr. David Turley MVB MRCVS graduated from UCD, Dublin in 2011. He worked in mixed practice in Devon for a year and then moved into an equine practice, in busy Surrey for five years. He moved back home to Northern Ireland in 2017 and set up an equine practice. At work he enjoys vettings, lameness and performance work, as well as scanning mares and equine dentistry. He also has an interest in equine eyes. David provides veterinary care at Downpatrick and Down Royal racecourses, and at point to points in Tyrella, Loughanmore, Largy, Kirkistown and Taylorstown. He organises equine courses for vets throughout Ireland, and is on the committee of the Association of Irish Racecourse Veterinary Surgeons (AIRCVS).

Rosalinda Devereux – Treasurer & Director IEVA CLG
Originally from New York, Rosalinda completed a BS in Animal Science at Cornell University before qualifying from the Royal Veterinary College in London in 2000. With an interest in stud medicine, Rosalinda spent time seeing practice with Sarah Stoneham in Newmarket and Jonathon Pycock in Yorkshire as well as travelling to Ireland to work with Kevin Foley and Conor Cashman in Rathbarry Stud. For the last 20 years, Rosalinda and her husband Peadar have been living in Wexford where they have raised their two daughters along side developing Wexford Equine Veterinary Practice. Rosalinda is also an FEI treating vet and panel vet at the Tattersalls and Goresbridge sales. Rosalinda has chaired the Equine group of Veterinary Ireland, is a past president of the IEVA is currently on the board of the Irish Veterinary Benevolent Fund.
Aoife Byrne
Dr. Aoife Byrne, MedVet Cert AVP PGCert VPS, graduated from the University of Veterinary Medicine, Budapest, in 2007 with her degree & a doctoral research thesis investigating MRSA in horses. An internship at Anglesey Lodge on the Curragh, followed by a year spent at a busy ambulatory practice, gave her an excellent grounding in all areas of equine veterinary medicine & surgery. Aoife then moved to England to work as an assistant vet at the Beaufort Embryo Transfer Centre, gaining experience in specialised reproduction techniques. Aoife then went on to work at Rowe Equine, Chapelfield Equine Clinic and B&W Equine Vets. Aoife’s areas of interest are internal medicine, reproduction, ophthalmology & dermatology. Returning home to Ireland, Aoife has brought her specialised equine veterinary experience to Bakonyi & Byrne Equine Vets.
Bridget McGing
Dr. Bridget McGing Qualified from UCD in 1984 and after a year in TB racing practice, took up position as Resident Vet with the Irish National Stud, where she stayed for the next 19 years. Bridget then became a partner in Grey Abbey Vets, which merged with Troytown to become TTGA in 2013. In 2018, the practice was sold to CVS Vets & in 2021 Bridget took early retirement from practice. Bridget has since enjoyed some locum positions, including a couple of years with the ambulatory service of UCD. Bridget has a passion for eventing & is currently on the board of Eventing Ireland & Chair of the South Leinster region. Bridget is also a Level2 FEI vet & acts as Veterinary Services Manager for a number of International events. Bridget has always kept a few sport horse mares & has been lucky enough to have recent success at 5* level with a homebred horse & continues to breed a few at her home in Kildare.

Carmel Welsh
Dr. Carmel Welsh, BSc BVM&S CertAVP (Stud Med) MVB, completed an honours degree in Equine Science before going to Edinburgh to study Veterinary where she graduated in 2009. After working a stud season in Australia, she returned to the U.K. to work as senior stud vet in a busy equine practice in Wokingham for 5 years. Carmel gained an RCVS certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice in Equine Stud Medicine from the University of Liverpool in 2015. Having returned home and joined Kilcash equine Clinic in 2016, Carmel became a director in 2019. She enjoys all aspects of equine reproduction including mare and stallion management, neonatal care, Frozen AI and embryo Transfer. She also works on the veterinary panel at Goffs.
David Mac Guinness
Dr David MacGuinness, MVB MRCVS qualified from Trinity College, Dublin in 1977. He worked in the UK in small animal practice and equine practice from 1977 to 1980. David then moved to and worked in South Africa from 1980 to 1987 and was a partner in an equine and small animal practice which contained 12 vets. In 1987, David returned to Dundalk and set up an equine and small animal practice. His brother John joined him in 1988 as a partner.


Gabrielle Haughton
Dr. Gabrielle Haughton DVM Dip CVA (IVAS) CFT BHSAI has extensive clinical experience specialising in integrative medicine. Gabrielle works with both equine and companion animals, especially within the competition sphere, using acupuncture and TCVM to ensure my patients continue to thrive in not just their competitive realms but everyday life. Gabrielle’s other interests include soft tissue surgery, emergency and critical care medicine, regulatory and welfare issues, and the promotion and education of clients and veterinarians in the use of integrative medicine
John Ortega-McCormack
Dr. John Ortega- McCormack, MVB, Dip ACVS- LA, graduated from University College Dublin in 2014. After graduation, he completed a rotating internship at UCD, followed by a period in general practice in Ireland and the USA. He then undertook an equine surgery and lameness internship at BEH, Pennsylvania. This was followed by a hospital internship at the University of Georgia (USA). On completion of residency at the University of Georgia, he became a boarded diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons and is presently one of the staff surgeons at Anglesey Lodge Equine Hospital in the Curragh. He has a predominant interest in orthopaedics and minimally invasive surgical techniques.

Louis Hassett
Dr. Louis Hassett B Sc , MVB, MRCVS. BSc in mathematical science from UCC. MVB from UCD 1987. Principal of equine/ SA practice in Newmarket on Fergus, Co Clare. Member of Veterinary panels at Tattersalls (Ire), Goffs, Goresbridge and Cavan Sales. Other main interests: art, horse racing and breeding.
Marcus Swail
Dr. Marcus Swail BVMS CertEqSportsMed MRCVS graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1993. Following spells working in the UK and Australia he returned to Ireland in 1998 and became a partner in Anglesey Lodge Equine Hospital. Marcus set up EquiVET Ireland in 2008. He worked as Team Veterinarian for the Irish Showjumping and Eventing Teams between 2003-2013 and the Irish Showjumping, Eventing and Dressage teams from 2017 to the date. During this time, Marcus has attended multiple Olympic Games, World Equestrian Games and European Championships in his capacity as Team Vet. Marcus has presented talks at international conferences and completed a Graduate Certificate in Equine Sports Medicine from University College Dublin in 2018.
Mary-Kate Burke
Dr. Mary-Kate Burke, MVB CertAVP PgCertVPS MMedEd FHEA, is Veterinary Medicine Programme Development Lead in the Faculty of Science and Computing, SETU. A UCD graduate (MVB), she worked in equine and mixed practice in Australia and the UK, and as a Clinical Instruction Mentor with a University of Surrey partner practice. She holds an RCVS CertAVP in Equine Stud Medicine and a PgCertVPS from Liverpool. She later worked at Cambridge Equine Hospital and the University of Cambridge, focusing on clinical teaching, assessment, and curriculum development. She completed an MMedEd, is a Fellow of Advance HE, and researches veterinary education, equine reproduction, and student career choices.

Seán E Rooney
Dr. Seán E Rooney BVSc MRCVS trained at the University of Bristol before starting at a mixed practice in Hay-on-Wye in Wales before pursuing his interest in the Equine Veterinary field. He worked for leading equine veterinary surgeons at Rossdales Newmarket, Blaircourt Equine Clinic in Essex and with Shires Vets in Staffordshire. In August 2016 Seán returned home to work in a mixed practice in Rathfriland, under the mentorship of renowned equine veterinarian Mr. Terry Smith MVB MRCVS Cert Equine Sports Medicine. Seán subsequently set up his own equine practice providing 24hour Equine Veterinary care. Seán is well known for organising and delivering client information evenings, and is also the NI regional vet for the Riding for the Disabled Association.
Sinead Devine
Dr Sinead Devine MVB cVMA qualified from UCD and started off working in mixed practise in Portlaoise. Moved to California and spent 12 years at Peninsula Equine Medical Center, a referral hospital with a focus on Sports Medicine. Completed all ISELP lameness modules. Qualified in both veterinary acupuncture and animal chiropractic. Returned to UCD, now as Assistant Professor of Equine Clinical studies. Established the UCDVH Equine Field Service in 2016 and works as an ambulatory clinician with an interest in lameness & integrative medicine. Current area of research is sustainable healthcare in Sport Horses. FEI Official Veterinary Delegate for Eventing, Jumping and Endurance, she has officiated at both European and World Championships.
Siobhan McAuliffe
Dr. Siobhan McAuliffe MBV, DACVIM graduated from Dublin in 1997. After 4 years of general equine practice in Ireland, she completed a residency in Internal medicine in Kentucky. She then became head of Medicine for the Stables of King Abdullah in Saudi Arabia for 5 years before returning to private practice in central Ky for 2 years. In 2010 she moved to Argentina to take up a medicine role at the Kawell equine hospital and rehabilitation centre. Siobhan returned to Fethard Equine hospital in 2017 where she stayed until 2021. Siobhan now works part-time for MSD animal health and offers a second opinion medicine service.

Susan Salter
Dr Susan Salter, BSc Hons, BVM&S, MRCVS is a graduate of the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies. Susan first travelled to Qatar to work alongside equine reproductive specialists at Al Shaqab’s internationally recognised breeding centre. She then worked in practice in Australia for a year before returning to Ireland to complete an internship in O’Byrne and Halley’s equine hospital in Tipperary. Susan subsequently trained in thearea of equine reproduction with world renowned stud medicine clinician John Newcombe. Susan’s primary focus lies in assisting sub-fertile and challenging-to-breed mares, and she shares her insights through contributions to veterinary journals and The Irish Field.
Valerie Hyde
Dr Valerie Hyde MVB graduated from UCD in 1990. Having spent one year in a small animal mixed practice in Yorkshire, she returned home to Kildare, and has since then combined clinical equine practice with running a stud farm in partnership with her husband, John Osborne MVB. Her specialist interests include Equine Anaesthesia, Stud Practice and Emergency Care. She is a Racecourse Vet at Naas and Punchestown racetracks and has attended professionally at a variety of equestrian events, including Tattersalls Three Day Event. She is also a Presale Vet Panelist at Goffs Sales Company.
