Fethard Equine Hospital – Equine Medicine Assistant – 20/09/22

Applications are now open for Equine Vets to join the 2023 Thoroughbred Breeding Season at Fethard Equine Hospital medicine unit. Applicants must have some previous referral hospital experience or experience with sick foals. The successful candidate must be enthusiastic with good team working skills and professionalism. Candidates will be in charge of the admission, care, and treatment of over 150 ICU foals and a wide range of other medical conditions in both adults and neonates equine patients.

Fethard Equine Hospital medicine unit is a well-purposed-built ward with state-of-the-art facilities to ensure the best care of our inpatients. This is a great opportunity to gain further experience in equine neonatal medicine as this is a hands-on medicine position where the candidate will be expected to work autonomously by the end of this period. Due to the seasonal nature of the position, this is a 6-month-fixed contract starting in early January.

We are a purpose-built, independent, equine only hospital and ambulatory practice located 30min from Dublin Airport. We are seeking an additional vet to join our growing team of 7 vets, 3 interns, 2 surgeons and super support staff.

The ideal candidate would have 5 years or more experience in equine practice and be an excellent communicator with interest and experience in stud practice and or sales / racing / poor performance. There is scope to develop your own interests in the practice and all the facilities and equipment to follow up your own cases and do a really great job.

Our caseload is primarily racing and performance horses with plenty of stud work and some leisure horse clientele. The role to be filled is primarily ambulatory but will be flexible with involvement in inpatient care, surgery or hospital based cases and work ups depending on your interests.

Our purpose built hospital is equipped with everything we can think of (portable wireless DR radiography, ultrasound, gastroscopy, videoendoscopy, shockwave, medical laser, overground endoscopy etc.) to help you work up your cases but if there’s something you need to offer our clients a better service, we will get it!

Equine practice can be hard work so we really try to support a work life balance:

  • 4.5 day working week with Friday off in lieu following weekend on call
  • On call rota equally shared to equivalent 1:5 – 1:6
  • Holidays 20 days plus bank holidays
  • CPD fully funded with no budget, if you justify it, we will pay for it. Certificates fully supported.

Equine Veterinary Surgeon Position – 06/04/22

Anglesey Lodge Equine Hospital Ltd  is welcoming applications for the rotating internship program (12 months, 2022-2023).

The internship program has recently been restructured to include rotations through internal medicine, surgery, anesthesia, outpatient appointments, and nights. Duties will include care of hospitalized patients, assisting with surgery, anesthesia, lameness investigation, internal medicine cases with a strong neonatology component during foal season, and diagnostic imaging.

Out of hours work is required with 2-3 nights on call/ week and 2-3 weekends/ month. The interns will be under the direct supervision of two board-certified surgeons and one board-eligible internal medicine clinician. Recent graduates and experienced candidates will be considered and will be required to have a veterinary degree registerable with the Veterinary Council of Ireland (VCI) at the time of starting. Professional indemnity insurance, VCI fees and a stipend are included.
