Most of my career has been with racehorses and a mix of eventers, show jumpers, dressage and pleasure horses. Limited breeding work but comfortable handling dystocias and sick foals, lacking in reproductive ultrasound skills but currently working with a local breeding farm veterinarian and the staff at Cornell to gain some degree of competency. Dual citizenship. Currently waiting restoration to the VCI Register after voluntary removal a couple of years ago due to expense.

KR Equine Veterinary Services are seeking an equine veterinary surgeon to join our sociable and supportive young team based in an area of outstanding natural beauty in North Down and Antrim.

The practice is a busy first opinion equine practice with a true mix of pleasure, sports and racehorses. We are fortunate to see a hugely varied caseload on a daily basis and have an impressive amount of all the usual equipment to support this. Clinical freedom with cases is actively encouraged, case discussion between the team is a natural part of our daily practice and support is on hand when needed.

The successful applicant will be ambitious, goal orientated and most importantly sociable to fit into our current team. Work life balance is valued and the practice is structured accordingly. Fethard Equine Hospital is hiring 4 equine vets with strong interest in neonatology, critical care, and internal medicine.

  • Previous referral hospital experience or experience with sick foals is ideal but not essential.
  • The successful candidate must be enthusiastic with good team working skills and professionalism.
  • Candidates will be in charge, under supervision, of the admission, care, and treatment of over 150 ICU foals and a wide range of other medical conditions in both adults and neonates equine patients.
  • Fethard Equine Hospital medicine unit is a brand new well-purposed-built ward with state-of-the-art facilities to ensure the best care of our inpatients.
  • This is a great opportunity to gain further experience in equine neonatal medicine as this is a hands-on medicine position where the candidate will be expected to work autonomously by the end of this period.
  • Due to the seasonal nature of the position, this is a 6-month-fixed contract. Accommodation in town and daily lunch will be provided. Salary will be discussed based on experience.
